Club Zwift Race - Monday, Dec 30 at 7PM

Hi everyone, a few of us that are racing on Zwift this winter are looking to a fill a void between Zwift Racing League Series by organizing a WCC club Zwift race! This is your chance to participate in an all-WCC race in your respective Zwift pace category (A/B/C/D/).

When: Monday, December 30, 2024 at 7PM

Route: Watopia Figure 8 (29.7km; 254m elevation)

Who: Anyone with a Zwift account can join.

How to register: You can sign up for your particular race category online here, or through the WCC club on the Zwift Companion app if you have it (search for WaterlooCyclingClub). If you don’t know your pace category, feel free to shoot me a message and I can help you figure it out.

Discord: We will be using the club Discord for race chat and banter throughout the races, so feel free to join that if you haven’t already. It’s really easy to do and a bit like using Teams or Slack. Here’s a link to the WCC server.

How does the race work? All registered riders will be placed in a starting pen with their particular category (A/B/C/D). The A category will start at 7pm sharp, followed by B at 7:02, C at 7:04, and D at 7:06. You will only be able to see other racers in the event, so it will function essentially the same as an official Zwift race. At the finish, there will be a leaderboard with results for your category. We should also be able to see the results in the companion app after the race.

If anyone has any questions, comment here or send me a message! Looking forward to racing - it would be great to have a good turnout and run more of these in the future if it’s a success!

EDIT: We decided to race as one category (E) to maximize field size, draft and pack dynamics, which should allow for a funner race. You will still be racing your particular pace category (A/B/C/D), and results will be filtered by category after the race. This will also allow those that want to challenge themselves against faster riders the opportunity to do so!

I should mention that anyone can join (whether they are part of the WCC Zwift club or not) through the link, so if you have any friends that want to race, feel free to share.

Here’s a reminder to sign up at the link above and see the edit to the original post re categories!

Sounds like fun, I’ll be there. Will be nice to have one big category. Thanks for organizing.

Thanks to everyone who came out! We had a solid field of 15 riders, which was a decent turnout for a first full-club event and made for a lively race! @ekalvi took top honours after a attacking @Sebastian_Grela on the final climb. In the chase group behind @jamie.wagler was able to jump clear over the final climb to round out the podium. Overall everyone had somebody to race, which made for an awesome time!

That was a lot of fun. Having a large(ish) group meant that almost everyone had a small pack to race with. It was a tough workout for sure, but the ~50 minutes went by really quickly. It was also nice to have a voice channel active which is something that is almost impossible to do outdoors!

This was a lot of fun, a great workout, and a good format to learn race tactics. The moderate group size, mix of levels and the fact that we know each other made it more fun than a typical Zwift race IMO.

Anyway, the plan is to do another one next week on Tuesday @ 7pm. There’s a chat including the vote on course selection (expiring in 6 hours) on the #rides-meetups channel on Discord.

It would be great to have participation at all Zwift levels A-D. Don’t be intimidated by the mass start. Groups will organically form and you may have the opportunity to keep up and hold on with a group a level or 2 higher than you typically do. Or vis versa

I’m hoping to join if these races become a regular thing. Never really zwift raced before but it’s going to be a long winter on the trainer so might as well start!
