Bridge proposes in the G2G gap in Wallenstein

See: Pedestrian bridge proposed over Conestogo River near Wallenstein

I would be great to see this gap addressed and kudos to the G2G volunteers who are working on getting it done!!

From the article:

A report going to the region’s sustainability, infrastructure and development committee says an independent, local fundraising initiative has secured $3 million in private contributions to support the design and construction of a pedestrian bridge to provide a connection along a portion the Kissing Bridge Trailway — a component of the Goderich to Guelph Rail Trail — where users are currently diverted along Highway 86, a busy stretch of road.

Cost estimates for the construction of a new river crossing range from $5.5 million to $8 million, leaving an estimated funding gap between $2.5 and $4.5 million.

Volunteers leading the fundraising campaign have indicated the private funding will be lost if a commitment to build the bridge isn’t secured in the short term …

A representative with the Guelph to Goderich Rail Trail said the project has been many years in the making and that a delegation on behalf of the group is planning to appear at Tuesday’s committee meeting.

Volunteers leading the initiative prepared a conceptual design brief for the proposed bridge and are also seeking an alternative road crossing for trail users at Highway 86 in Wallenstein to address pedestrian and cyclist safety concerns.

Why am I struggling to imagine the locations of the bridges?

Someone take a screen cap and circle 'em for me.

Merci.

I think it might be this gap…google maps shows the G2G going straight over the river, but there’s no bridge there currently so riders turn right along 86, cross the river, then turn left on Powell rd until they meet up with G2G again.

If you zoom in on Google Maps satellite view you can see two bridge pylons still in the river but no bridge deck.

5.5 to 8 Million ! :grimacing:

would be nice, but some serious money still to raised by the sounds of it

I can’t imagine how this is so expensive, but I am eagerly looking forward to this happening! And then next step is the loop around the kissing bridge in West Monrose!

@AndyH has told me about the potential bridge at this location. It’s great that there’s such a generous donation, but like @Thiago, I can’t imagine it costing that much.
