Road ITT Provincial Championships this weekend!

Hi everyone,

The road ITT provincial championships are this weekend. It’s on a flat non-technical course.

For those that do the club TT this is a nice stepping stone to TT competition. They have a regular TT class (according to UCI rules) a TT class that’s called Sportif (if your bike setup doesn’t allow you to race in the UCI class) as well as a Merckx class.

Would be great to get club members out to this event!

Cheers,
Chris

Awesome side note: @Bopper (Kevin) is the PCP (President of the Commissaire’s Panel…aka The Grand Chief of the event  )

Good luck to all of you competing!

Thanks Tommy. I am taking a huge step in my journey as a Commissaire with this assignment. I hope I do a good job.

I agree with Chris, anyone that does our monthly TT would have a great time at this event. It will be a proper TT with start ramp and marshalled turn point and proper electronic timing.

As Chris pointed out if your bike won’t meet UCI specifications you can race in the Sportive class or the Merx class. If you race in the Championship category (UCI) you are eligible for the Provincial Champions jersey. There are some extremely fast people our club and I expect many would be very competitive.

You have until Wednesday noon to register. This is a great opportunity to see how you stand up against the entire province.

Come out all and represent. I promise to cheer on the inside.:rofl:

Hmm, it’s not really my course (doesn’t go up the escarpment :yum:) but we are visiting relatives in Grimsby on Sunday and picking up furniture, but that means that I might not have room for a bike on the way back. @ekalvi , would it be possible for me to send my bike back with you if it doesn’t look like the bike will fit? I’ll probably race Master A and hope the numbers are thinnest there. I guess the biggest gotcha for bike setup is the rise of the TT extensions?

Yes, no problem. I’ll have room.

Thank you Erik. They sent us a picture of the furniture and it looks like it should all fit, but I appreciate that.

I’m very familiar with this stretch of road. They use it for the Welland LC Tri and for Barrelman! She’s flat and fast!!

Awesome glad to see you registered!

If your saddle is less than 5cm behind the BB you can only go 75cm from center of BB to tip of extensions.

I’d look at having the saddle more than 5cm back and then go 80cm on the reach.

Easy way to measure:

Saddle setback:
Stand bike up and have rear tire against a wall. Measure from wall to center of BB. Then measure from wall to tip of saddle. Subtract the two and the difference is your setback

Aerobar reach:
For aerobar extension length measure from wall to tip of aerobar, then measure from wall to centre of BB. Subtract to get total reach. (Just under 80cm should be your target.

Cheers,
Chris

Hoping I can get out to cheer. I am driving back from my race in Hepworth straight after the race on Saturday. Good luck to all!

It is a very flat and fast road. Not in pristine condition but pretty great in most sections!

Ontario Cycling and Performance Driven Events are extremely disappointed to have to announce the postponement of the 2024 ITT Provincial Championships. After working with a number of different policing services, we have been unable to fulfil the paid-duty officers that we are required to have in place to safely run the event. Greg Rawson has shared that In over 15 years of running events in the cycling industry, this is the first time that we’ve been unable to run an event due to a shortage of officers.

We are committed to finding a replacement location for the 2024 Championships and will be providing an update as soon as we have confirmed a new location and date.

We are offering full refunds to all participants but registrations will stand for the future event and we will re-open registration once we have a new date and location.

The safety of our riders, the officials and the volunteers are our main priority and without proper traffic management controls, we cannot in good conscious go forward with the event.

Our deepest apologies and if you have any questions, please reach you to the office at events.team@ontariocycling.org

Yes, it’s been a real scramble the last few days for Greg trying to secure officer’s to be able to run the event. Sadly he was unable to do so…so the event is post-poned. Hopefully they will be able to find another venue and date to hope the event later this year. Fingers crossed as we have put in alot of work and it would be a real waste to have it cancelled.

Keep your eyes pealed.

The course is on the lovely Road between Port Rowan and Port Burwell. The distances will be 39 km, 30 km and 15 km. Register for the race in the Sportif category if you want to give it a try but don’t feel you have the right equipment. I hope to see some of our regular TT riders there, and hopefully some other club members…it’s a beautiful course!! You will have a blast

Hi Kevin, with the Provincial ITT going ahead, do you know what TTs you will hold with the club for the rest of the season?

William,
We will still be holding our club TT Finale. Chris and I have not discussed it, we will either hold the Wednesday Short TT or we hold a 40k TT …it has yet to be decided.

Keep your eyes open for details.
