Bikepacking Trip 2027

Hi All. We have held several bikepacking trips now with the club in 2024 and 2026. Five of us went in 2023 and we had up to ten people cycling with the group in 2026. I am posting once again to see if there is interest in going on another bikepacking trip in 2027!

I thought it could be nice to do a few short practice rides early in the year and then a longer ride in July or August. Our pace varies from 20-23 km/hr typically on these trips with lots of stops at restaurants and to get food along the way. I am a super inclusive cyclist who wants anyone interested to be able to join these trips so please don’t hesitate to ask questions.

See some polls below to collect information about what timing and type of riding you would like to do. I usually try to book this in calendars early so that people can plan their summer around it and avoid conflicts as much as possible to get a larger group together.

I had interest last year from a number of people @Shelly @Jules_Dotzert @valentinacastilloc @Gwyneth_Mitchell @jonathan_bowman @carlsberg @sholota @GeoffS @hugoperezcano. Let me know if you are still interested.

If anyone else is interested or has questions please let me know by joining in on this thread.

Poll#1: Duration, Location and vibes of the Trip
  • A: Local overnighter (i.e. one night camping and then return home) to practice setup, test gear and get a ride home easily if needed. Location would be Conestoga Lake or Guelph Lake/Rockwood Conservation Area (approximately 50-60km distance one way). Cost of camping ($20) + food would be ~$50.
  • B: Mid-Distance Destination trip to Lake Erie (Turkey Point PP, Selkirk or Rock Point PP, Brant Conservation Area) and back. The first day would be 100km but the other days would be a bit less than that (60-80km). Total of 4 days, 3 nights camping. Cost of camping ($100) + food would be ~$300.
  • C: Long-Distance Destination trip to Bruce Peninsula/Tobermory and/or Manitoulin Island. Total of 7+ days, 6+ nights camping. Total cost would be about $700+ per person.

To be clear, I would help plan the routes, get emergency contacts and book the campsites, I also add a planning fee to the total cost. Food is not provided and you would need to bring/buy your own for the trip (I just wanted to estimate how much it would cost at about $30-50/ day). Any gear purchases would also need to be included in your cost estimates so don’t forget to factor that in as well.

Very cool, Emily!

Having dates this early helps.

My skinny tires will do poorly on northern trails, so my yes vote for option C relates to the duration vs. location. If I have a different bike by then (and improve my climbing abilities), that would change things
