Saturday Road Bikes

This is my plan for Saturday Sept 28 2024.
Cafe stop in Arkell.
Victory roll through favourite destination Eden Mills.
Sail home tailwind on Crowsfoot.
Easier pace because need energy left to dig basement.

Anyone interested?

Hi Scott;

What is ‘easier pace’, since I think you are normally a Group 1 rider? I’ve done Group 3 on Tuesday Bamberg and Thursday Threshold, but for Fondo’s would be more Intermediate…would this ride be for the Group 1/2/3 only?

Thank you!

Hi Colin,

The pace in terms of average speed and intensity depends greatly on how many join us and who joins us. If it’s a large group we all get more recover time in the draft. If @gmerritt comes out it will just be a harder ride (simple facts hehe).

Knee jerk reaction; this will be more of a G2 pace which means it will stretch a G3 rider to push their limits which is a good thing

I haven’t ridden much in September therefore my legs aren’t in greatest shape and I want to conserve energy for manual labour for the rest of the weekend.
I’ll be taking shorter pulls and not going for every town sign sprint. If I need to I’ll recover in the draft and skip pulls if needed. This is something you can do too.

I don’t know your ability Colin and if you are up for a challenge I’d recommend coming out and play it safe by sitting at the back of the group for the first while to gauge the intensity until you feel confident to move up through the group and take a short pull. No pull is too short.

What’s the worst that can happen? You start off with a group and if you get dropped part way in, you’ll probably be further and have a faster avg speed than if you had started alone, you’ll learn a few tricks on how to improve drafting and hanging on, and you can finish your ride solo on the quiet roads on a lovely autumn day

Ciao,
Scott

I’m interested. Haven’t been out much in Sept either except for a few Bambergs that left me gasping. Good chance I’d be rolling back with you, Colin.

Also Colin, I posted the ride in the Events calendar so you can sign up and get any notifications of changes etc I think @Martin_Wolniczek wants to improve the route to include the roll back into town.

Ciao,
Scott

Thanks for the information. I’m not too confident in my abilities, as cycling is new to me this year. I averaged just under 30km/h on a solo 96km ride last week, and did 31.5km/h on a previous solo 90km ride. I’ve done a few Thursday G3’s where we average 33/34km/h and that was likely the limit of my ability at this point, so a G2 pace would probably be too much. I agree I like to challenge myself, but I will be weaker tomorrow too as I ran a half-marathon yesterday!

Thanks!
