I have a friend requesting help finding a lawyer who deals with cycling accidents. Would anyone be able to recommend one?
Have a look at Judith Hull of London or the Biking Lawyer out of Toronto.
I will second Dave Shellnut as he’s as great guy! I will also recommend Morell Kelly. They took care of me when I was hit by a car in 2012 and they did a great job.
Sorry to hear about your friend’s accident.
Our clinic treats MVA (motor vehicle accident) clients, and many of them have lawyers. I’m not sure of those lawyers’ level of expertise in cycling (relative to those of the lawyers that other WCC members recommended. Most of our clients’ accidents were car/motorcycle vs bicycle-related.)
YES to going with a lawyer someone recommends. They are NOT all the same. And to choosing your own treatment providers or at least having a say.
If your friend wants to talk with me about the lawyers our clients have liked most, I’m happy to speak with him/her/them about that. And/or about navigating the MVA med-rehab process (it’s separate from OHIP and ridiculouslyconfusing).
Also, and this is for everyone, the provincial accident laws just changed effective Jul 1st. If your friend’s accident happened after Jul 1st, it’ll affect their coverage. If the accident happened before; it won’t. Silly, eh?
Hm… wondering if I should post about the Jul 1st separately? (Most people don’t know about those changes and it affects them and their family’s coverage if they’re injured as drivers, passengers, cyclists, pedestrians, etc.)
Thanks @shelly . If you have info to share re the implications of the legislative changes, please advise.
Thanks
Scott
Sure thing. It’s quite political, sadly. Government, insurers, lawyers are have a different take. I’m a provider, so not unbiased either. Will put something together and source some neutral(er) sources and include links.
