I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter of people racing this weekend. I think I am good to go with weekend plans shaping up.
Who else is in for this round of the Substance Projects gravel series?
And more importantly since it is gravel what tires is everyone thinking? I am going back and forth between the Thunderburts and Terra Speeds. The TBs have better rolling resistance, but it doesn’t sound like a very technical course so I might not need the volume and the terra speeds will be more aero at the higher speeds.
I might enter if I have Saturday free, still not sure.
It’s been a year since I’ve ridden the roads up there but I don’t remember anything out of the ordinary, just depends how recently they’ve been coated with fresh gravel. The first stretch after the start will split things up nicely, that road is a painful drag uphill.
I won’t change tires since it’s not technical, so just my regular gravel tread, Michelin Power Gravel on the front and a Schwalbe G-One Speed on the rear.
Have a strong WCC / Faction contingent - Dan, Ethan, Ben, Jeremy?, Erik? Vance, Alex? will make for a serious A team! Scott M, David S and I, Mark? will do our best as a B squad (C?)
And, being so close to home, would be excellent to see as many WCC out as we can!
Here’s the course; I’d think something like a Terra Speed would be great for this
I will be there riding the short course on my single speed. I will be riding my normal set up with Specialized Pathfinder Pro 47mm.
Dan the organizer before the last two races this season has said this race is a good entry point for new racers with “champagne gravel” and less fun technical sections. Hope this helps!
Echoing what others have said. From memory, none of the roads up there are very technical, and yeah, the organizer is highlighting that this one has no “rowdy” sections like the other races.
I rode the whole course on Saturday and it is borderline road bike territory. The course is flat and open so I would go for more aero and lower crr. If there is any wind it will play major role.
