Canada Day Gravel ride - poll for date

Canada Day is coming, up, and as usual, I’m looking to put on a big gravel ride, 1 km for each year of Confederation. That means we’re up to 158 km this time.

This year, Canada day falls on a Tuesday. For me, my employer is observing the holiday on the Monday, and I’m back to work on Tuesday.

Additionally, for Saturday the 28th, @MarkW and @VikramSubramanian are looking at potentially a longer ride out to Cowbell Brewery along the G2G, so that would be in the 200 km range, I believe.

So long story short, I figure there’s a few options: Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. There’s a poll below, you can select multiple days, just pick the days you are available and willing to ride. My preference is Monday. If the majority wants Tuesday, I can make a route and post, but I won’t be on the ride.

  • Sunday, June 29th
  • Monday, June 30th
  • Tuesday, July 1st (actual Canada day)

As far as route, I really like the one we did last year. I’d consider that if the wind is from the west again. (I just need to add 1 km somewhere - and maybe I’d reverse the route for variety)

--------------
If we happen to get an East or North wind, heading up towards Luther marsh would also be super cool. (something like the below route, but would probably start in Elmira to be able to make a 158 km route)

--------------
And then I’ll also throw this out there, with a WSW wind it would be great.

Monday is looking the most popular so far (It’s my preferred date, too).

Wind is currently forecast to be SW. I’m actually looking at the 155 and 157 routes and seeing if I can smush them together somehow and end up with something good.

So like, start at the Wilmot Rec Centre, but head west to Stratford, the down along the river roads into ST. Mary’s, then over to the Hickson trail down into Woodstock, and finish going back up to the Rec Center, maybe see if we can do the gravel hill at Wolverton on the way back… hoping to get all this and also get it to exactly 158 km. :crossed_fingers:

I see a river crossing in my future :upside_down_face:.

ha, I was just looking at last year’s route to figure out where it was. Was thinking of removing it, but perhaps it’s too iconic to leave out?

I might have Monday off now, so if my legs are still working after the Cowbell run I’ll be looking forward to that river crossing.
