The club road race series is back for a second year and we’re hoping to run a few more of them than last year. The series is all about pushing yourself and having some fun. There are some great lessons to learn about being efficient and smart in a group that everyone can benefit from.
If you’ve come out in the past then try to convince other club members you ride with to give it a try. It’s a very relaxed and no pressure way to be introduced to racing.
The first race just happened and it was a fun start. Sadly it happened the same day as a road o-cup so cat A was missing quite a few people but the B’s had a good showing that I’m sure will grow into a full peloton.
Here are the remaining dates: June 22, July 20, Aug. 10 & 17, also Sept 28 although we’ll gauge interest at that point in the season and see.
The two courses up near Hawkesville were great last year so we’ll use them a fair bit, they are pictured below.
We also have three different crit courses planned out that range between 1-2km in length. Hopefully we can use a couple of them for something different.
@WillA mentioned the idea of trying to have small teams. If the racers in a category were all in favour then it’s something we could try for fun. Wearing coloured arm bands might be an easy way to distinguish the teams and the members would be assigned before the race to try and keep everything as even as possible. What does everyone think?
