Has anyone tried bibs from The Black Bibs? Price is appealing and good reviews but hoping to hear if someone has tried before pulling the trigger!
Hi Zack
I have actually purchased all 3 versions of their bibs.
Overall, they are fine quality, but the price of their top end bibs ends up being similar to the clubs Castelli.
The Basic Bib - Good for the price. I find these are good for short rides (eg 1hr indoor, up to 2hrs outside). The construction is pretty good, but the legs do tend to ride up.
Ultimate - Quite a bit better. These were my go to until I got the Castelli. Pad is more robust, and the leg grippers really help.
Ultimate 3D - Does seem fairly good, chammy is high quality and the 3D insert is nifty. These now cost more than the Castelli bibs and I prefer Castelli.
So I can say they are decent, but the prices quickly go up after the basic bibs. If you are looking for cheap bibs for short rides, these are a decent option.
Awesome thanks for the input.
Might grab a pair of ultimate to try them out. Also have my WCC kit on the way so will be well stocked for the summer.
I bought a pair of the basic shorts a long time ago. They were really long in the leg, so the seam ends up on the middle of my knee. I’d try the basic shorts or bibs from decathlon if I were looking for cheap kit for short rides.
Haha, a problem I’ve never had!
