Emily, I have a different route that utilized the rail trail from Paisley to MIldmay. Same distance but more gravel. The rail trail north of Paisley and south of Mildmay are terrible. All chewed up from ATVs so your route may be the safer bet. I will share it with you when I figure out how to paste the link. I switched to a mac recently and it doesn’t paste the same. Also, your day 2 route from Goderich to Amberley follows Hwy 21 all the way. I do not recommend that. Very busy road. There is a way to get up there on mostly gravel roads with minimal use of 21. It will lengthen the route but be a lot safer. I will map that part out and share it hopefully by the weekend. Also, I will be taking my trailer to Point Farms at the end of May and plan to ride up to Amberley so can provide tweeks closer to the trip.
Thanks Jim! And yes I am hoping to avoid hwy 21 with an alternate route for Day 2 for sure (but not too far out of the way). @Gwyneth_Mitchell was also going to look at an alternate route for Day 2.
Hello everyone!
I have started building routes based off Emily’s routes and with my two cents.
Day 1: Ride with GPS | Bike Route Planner and Cycling Navigation App
I am not sure if anyone else here had ridden the G2G all the way to Goderich, but I put a warning on the Maitland crossing. When I did it in 2023 the river was too deep to cross and I had to backtrack and detour, which for me was not a good time since it also started to thunderstorm!
Anyway, detouring is something you might face, there is a detour on the G2G website which goes over Ball’s Bridge which is a very nice bridge! I have not done this detour because I got lost due to rain so heavy I couldn’t see.
Here is another route with the detour I did on my way home when I still lived in KW. I haven’t been on Sandhill Line but can scout it out.
Hope y’all like gravel!
Here is Day 2, lots of gravel again but it doesn’t go on the ATV trail Jim is talking about. I’ve mostly been on all these roads and I hope you like adventure! I can comb through it more and scout out or revisit some of the roads from Point Farms to Point Clark, but after that all the roads are very well traveled by myself! The section on Concession 2 is paved but we are on there for a while. I can add some zig zags to make it more interesting, that might be a good idea if it’s windy actually. Lake Huron likes to give you a headwind like that.
Here is another idea for day 3:
MacGregor Point PP to Conestogo CA
- MacGregor to Paisley via concession roads
- Go through Paisley for food
- Take the rail trail section from Paisley to Mildmay, which Jim said was good. Also passes close to Walkerton
- From Mildmay, get on the gravel sideroad away from highway 9 / 109. Looks like some nice gravel roads all the way down to Line 87
- From there it is a straight shot to the south side of Conestogo reservoir. Also passes close to Listowel
This would be an alternative for the Point Farms to Point Clark section of Gwyn”s Day 2 route. It reduces the 20k NW stretch along S Kinloss which could help in the event of a NW wind.
The other alternative is to head north to Auburn and take Nile Road to Golf Course Road. That is the way I go to Point Farms. More direct but less scenic.
That looks much better Jim!
I still like going down Concession 6 to Trouts Grove. It’s a nice quiet cottage road
Good suggestion Carl. Better then the one I used. I put your route in RWGPS
Thanks everyone - loving these new route options - looking forward to meeting tomorrow at 11am at the Kitchener Market nearby the Serrinia Cafe on the top floor!
I am at a table on the top floor eating area. Look towards the washrooms and you should see me. I brought my bike helmet too so look for the table with the white bike helmet to find me.
Catching up on the feed.@emily.lloyd, love your initiative and planning
Sounds like it will be an excellent summer adventure.
Although I’m not available these dates, I’m interested in doing something like the BT-700 LT or Farmer’s Folly at sub 100km/day. I have availability within June 29th-July 11th. If there’s any interest in coordinating, I can start a “bikepacking adventure 2.0” channel.
That sounds like a great idea Katherine! I had my eye on the Farmer’s Folly ride at some point in the future but might not be available those dates. Definitely feel free to start a second channel for another adventure later in the summer. I know others may be interested! It could also be helpful to note that there is a grand depart in early June for the BT 700: BT 700 Grand Depart - BT 700 BIKEPACKING this isnt for the dates you mentioned but there is lots of opportunity for some epic rides in 2026!

I have drafted a cost estimate for the campsites I booked below. Once we confirm the number of people coming in early June I will send out the final numbers and ask for e-transfers or cash. Just FYI we are looking at around $40-70 per person depending on how many people are coming. I would also budget for about $30-50 per day for food.
Looks great Emily. Thanks for putting the legwork into getting this all planned out.
Much appreciated.
Thank you for doing all of this Emily!
