So, I need to order some bike parts. I was a fan of Chain Reaction for their prices, selection and ease of shipping, but they are no longer. Any suggestions for good price, selection and deliver times?
Depending on the item, I’ve bought from what appear mostly to be larger Canadian bike shops that also have online stores (including Ziggy’s locally). But, I haven’t found anything quite like Chain Reaction. Given they went under, perhaps there is a reason!
Also the various German websites are good too especially for tires. I like bike24.com and they also have some of the stuff that was wiggle / chain reaction exclusives.
Be warned off the shipping though. They seem to have all put their shipping prices up. Great for larger orders but not for smaller ones.
If you do end up ordering from merlin, I need a new helmet so will split the shipping potentially
Oh yes bike Inn is good and their shipping can be more reasonable. Their pricing is a little odd though as are their stock levels. If you see an item for a good price available grab it. Sometimes it never comes back in stock!
In the last few months Merlin cycle switched to UPS for shipping. Their rates are fairly high unless you buy enough for free shipping. Also with UPS you will always pay duty and taxes.
I’ve used Bikeinn for track tubulars (almost half price!) and both times it has taken 3+ weeks to get my tires. They use NLPost/Canada Post so you’re getting the the slow route (my last order was placed Aug 16 and tracking is saying delivery tomorrow…).
I’m finding it rare to NOT pay duty on anything these days, granted i just bought skinsuits from velotec from Ireland and there wasn’t any duty and free shipping (but they used FedEx and i think the duty is included in the shipping…which they covered given i passed the min spend).
Jenson USA. They seem to oscilate in stock and availability, but generally prices (at least used to) were close to Chain Reaction/Wiggle. Shipping is fast.
+1 for jenson – they were my go to for quick next day stuff prior to moving out here, and have had a reliable no-duty-surprise getting stuff to Canada (free shipping at 150$USD+). Both times it was 2 business days.
