Lets get right to it, probably already know I won the 45-54 masters race. Here’s a quick inside look at how the race unfolded, yet not much happened kind of a blur. I woke up Friday morning to an email saying I was moved to the Elite race as my license is a uci elite. This was my fault when I applied for the license, confused though on how this wasn’t brought up when I raced Masters at Rochester or even better Masters at Marathon Nationals?? Anyhow, fought to get my license changed and within 2 hours I was being issued a new license. My name had already been removed from the start list and put into the elite list, which i heard got a few guys excited. The biggest issue with racing elite was I wouldn’t be able to do PanAms in masters and would be forced to race elite there too. Plus, there’s zero change of winning elite haha. Pete Glassford had the same issue but he didnt fight it and raced elite, did well but hey, he would have won his master 34-44 race.
That race started 1min ahead of mine. Alex and Andrew were in that field.
Really only 2 guys in my field I was worried about, 1 Quebec guy and 1 guy from NS I haven’t raced yet. But I can tell you im my head I was going to crush them on this course. And I did, 2.5 min lead at the finish. 30sec after lap 1.
I caught Parker Bloom on lap 2 after he had bike troubles and I soon caught up to Eric Jeannotte, who I thought was leading master A lol just like last year. He rode with me for 1.5 laps then I got a gap and rode away. He was 2nd, there was another Quebec guy 1 min a head. I was slowly catching him but started to slow down on the last 2 laps and finished 30sec after him. Over all my time was faster so technically the fastest master haha.
So here we go with the national jersey for another year, and a chance right away to wear it this weekend in DC for PanAms.
Been watching a huge storm expected to hit the area late week but now seems to be only a bit of rain Thursday. I’m planing on driving down with a client/friend Thursday and maybe stop in New York State for easy gravel ride.
