@Bopper @ChrisP notice the start line was “into” the Strava segment last night - not a big deal for a C rider like me, but for those chasing the kom it could. (And not sure if that Strava time even matters since Kevin keeps track!)
Will, the Strava segment is an approximation of the route…it’s quite difficult to locate the segment start finish precisely…same for the turn point. I do the best I can to have it in the same spot each time, but there could be variations +/- a couple metres at each end. In the end, your time is the time I give …not what Strava has (although my time comes from the Strava segment, as there is nobody there to officially time). If you want Strava segment KOM, you’d best do it from a flying start and in ideal conditions. For the TT you’re getting your time compared month over month on a similar course. Only variables are weather and fitness. We can’t control the former, and we can see what our fitness is like on that day and over time. As I mentioned in my post, the time last night was approximately 1 minute faster than my first TT of the season…so I can see the progression. I am getting stronger and I know I’m leaner than I was, so it all translates into a quicker time.
You did a fantastic ride last night. You learned a lot too. Now you have a baseline to work with…so we shall see you next year!
Wasn’t being critical - and super appreciate the effort you guys put in to run it!! And again doesn’t impact me lol (especially considering it’s my first ever).
Just thinking more for the fast guys that challenge top spots (or in Jakes case the Kom lol) - having the start similar to before would allow us to compare those battling for the top 10 (on Strava).
And probably only a few meters here out there … And if I can I’ll look to spotting it out one of these days.
Thanks again for your efforts!
That’s how it all starts
Tim happens to have a TT bike for sale…
